Simple & straightforward research

Every project is different. Below are some of the primary types of research I can do for you. I will help you determine what the best approach will be to meet your needs.

In-depth interviews

In-depth interviews are used to surface rich data about people’s behaviors, preferences, and attitudes. They can be conducted in-context (in the participant’s habitat), in-person or remotely. They are often used at the beginning of the design process, to determine the right direction in which to go with target user segment and concepts.

Deliverables often include personas, current journey maps, future journey maps, and/or slide or doc reports.

MY SERVICES

Concept
testing

Used when one or more lower-fidelity initial concepts exist, and clients need to determine which design direction to go with, and which features people find valuable and intuitive, vs not. They can be conducted in-person, remotely, or unmoderated and may consist of more than one round of testing. From here, clients can confidently decide what to pursue in the next round of more high-fidelity designs.

Deliverables are usually reports (slide, doc, spreadsheet or Miro)

Surveys

Used to gather demographic, psychographic, behavioral, and attitudinal data from a large sample of people, it can be applied in multiple ways. A survey can be conducted before or alongside a round of interviews to strengthen confidence in design direction and who to recruit, to get an initial definition of user segments, and more. Surveys are easily done remotely and unmoderated.

Deliverables are usually spreadsheet, doc or slide reports.

Card sorting
or tree testing

This method is great for when clients are working on creating the most intuitive navigation experience for users. We can learn what users’ mental models look like, and craft a navigation experience to reflect it. We can avoid creating an experience with unintuitive information architecture, where users get lost in the experience. This testing can be administered in-person/moderated or remotely/unmoderated.

Deliverables usually consist of a doc or slides report.

Ideation workshops

Workshops help after discovery research has been conducted and the team must determine which concept direction(s) to proceed with. Activities vary depending on goals, but may include concept ideation, dot voting and value analysis. Workshop participants usually include cross-functional team members, stakeholders, and sometimes customers. They can be conducted remotely using a Miro board, or in-person.

Deliverables are usually the completed Miro board or photos, plus a slide, doc or spreadsheet report.

Usability
testing

When a concept direction has been decided upon and higher-fidelity prototypes or services need to be refined, it will uncover areas of the experience to improve or magnify, so clients can confidently create the most intuitive and delightful experience for users. It can be done in-person, remotely, or unmoderated, often in multiple rounds. Depending on the fidelity, it might be conducted in-context (in the applicable environment).

Deliverables are usually reports (slide, doc, spreadsheet or Miro)
