Gather data from a very large number of respondents to understand mental models, behaviors, attitudes and preferences. This can be in the form of surveys, card sorting, tree testing, or unmoderated usability testing

Cross-functional team members and sometimes customers ideating on and prioritizing potential solutions to customers’ problems, resulting in confident ideas on where to take the experience next



Evaluative research

Through concept, service or usability testing, identify areas of experiences that are confusing or frustrating to customers, which are intuitive and delightful, and why. This informs strategic recommendations on how to best resolve parts of the experience that didn’t test well, and which parts to maintain or magnify
